Positivo Launches Music Workshop in Mchinji

Mchinji Positivo Launch
One of the dedicated members of the Buwa Secondary School music group receives from a Positivo official the CD of the AIDS song that was recorded prior to the official launch of both the CD and the project in Mchinji.

As part of the activities of the "Integrated HIV & Aids, SRHR Network - Malawi" Project being implemented jointly by the Positivo Malawi, the Journalists Association Against AIDS (JournAIDS), & the Child Rights Information & Documentation Centre (CRIDOC), Positivo launched the Music Workshop in Mchinji District on September 29, 2013 at a colorful ceremony attended by its partner, CRIDOC.

Activities included football match between girls' and boys' teams; drama performances; band performances; Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) and other youth-friendly health services provided  by The Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM).

The other key activity was the official launch of the recorded AIDS song which was performed live by a group of students at the Buwa Secondary School.

The event was graced by the District Youth Officer; a Village Headman, and an official from the District Education Manager (DEM) Office.

Before the event, Positivo worked with students of Buwa Community Day Secondary School upon endorsement by Ministry of Education (Mchinji Office).

The Mchinji District Hospital was also involved especially during the education session. Their Youth Friendly Health Service Provider actively participated in the interactions with the youth during the education sessions.
FPAM also joined Positivo especially during the education session.

Positivo inspired the Buwa group in coming up with the AIDS through a week-long music workshop, recording the song and filming it for the documentary, including interviews with female school drop-outs discussing the causes for their dropping out.
